The Ježevac campsite on a slight elevation contains the remains of a little medieval church on the south-western side of the town of Krk. According to the style of construction, its origins lie in the 12th or 13th century, but there are indications that it could also be from the 11th century too. Next to the church are the remains of the bell tower, which, given its location, probably had an alarm function in the event of an attack from the sea. Behind the church, next to the apse, a pit was discovered in the rock that also served as a well. It is assumed that the name of the church, St. Mary of the Spring, derives from this. There is also a legend in the local tradition of how St. Francis, hiding from a storm, was staying here and transferred his teachings to a local hermit. This is considered the beginning of the Franciscan Order in the town of Krk.
